RAGE2500v2 – The Next Generation
Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken, well as you know, without innovation there’s no progress. The first RAGE amplifiers opened up an entirely new market for us based on performance, footprint & price. Then why change it? Let’s just say expectations, climate and applications can vary beyond imagination. Instead of expanding with various lines, it made more sense to offer more to the end user.
The Redesign
Keeping the small footprint in mind, we sought out to optimize the design of the 2500 amp. Various installs have been with multiple of these amplifiers and most people don’t have a vast amount of space available. The new heatsink has shortened the amplifiers lenght by nearly 3″ and only increased width by 1.6″. Might sound like a bad choice in terms of cooling? Quite the opposite, the amplifier now has more mass to disperse the heat vs the old version, allowing it to run cooler for a longer amount of time. But why stop there, capacitance was boosted with >35%, making it far superior in dynamic power. At full tilt, you can expect 5000 watts from the RAGE2500v2. The power supply follows the same pattern, the 5 precision wound torroids are not only an increase of 25%, but they allow for a more efficient operation at any impedance load. Comparing the old 2500 vs the new, It now boasts a 60% increase in output at 4 ohms, how’s that for a redesign!
High Voltage
The future brings more than ordinary voltage spans, the impact lithium has made on the car audio scene was unprecedented. While most other companies have voltage capped their amps at 15v, we accounted for the higher voltage charging some of these new battery configs demands. High power at higher voltage and less power at sub 14.4v is the typical old fashioned way of doing it. Our take is keeping efficiency througout the entire operation span (9v~17.5v). So even at 12v, the RAGE2500v2 will make an impact vs comparable designs.
ACCU8 & Clip
These two features are also powerful tools. The ACCU8 deals away with guessing your crossover or boost settings. The 41 click pots each corresponds to a unique frequency / boost level. That way you can be on point with your settings. Coupling this with the clip indicator, which is also present on the bass remote it’s a no brainer to get a clean signal from your amplifier.
Master & Slave
Some do still prefer the option of strapping amps. It can be based upon subwoofer configurations, required power after rise or even cost of a single larger vs 2 smaller amps. The v2 has inherited this feature as it is still a half bridge design. In such a master & slave setup, the output power is twice that of a single amp, but at a higher ohm load.
